She’s certainly made her mark on the music industry, but for now Miley Cyrus is switching gears and focusing on her movie career.
“I just want to do films ’cause I like being someone else,” the “Party in the USA” singer said during an interview on “The View” Monday morning.
“I just feel like the music industry isn’t as positive as I’d like it to be,” the 17-year-old added.
Miley also shared, “I’m trying to make people see my work as a real actress and more mature. And when you have someone who loves you and wants you to do well, you really want to help each other, and you want to make each other look good.”

She’s been hot on the promotional trail for “The Last Song” as of late, and Miley Cyrus is not afraid to dish on her co-star/real life boyfriend, Liam Hemsworth.
The “Party in the USA” songstress spills, “[Liam has] become my best friend in the whole wide world. I love him. He really respects me for who I am because coming from Australia, he really didn’t know me as the celebrity I am here. I got to tell him about myself on my own terms and my own way. He had no preconceived notion of who I was supposed to be.”
Of meeting Liam on set, Miley says, “The last thing I was expecting to do was to fall in love. I went there thinking the summer was about me and getting focused on my career. But I guess God was like, ‘Girl, here is this amazing guy.’”
“He’s very grateful for what he has, but he doesn’t let it go to his head. I’m like that too,” adds Ms Cyrus.
“The Last Song” hits theaters on March 31.

Miley Cyrus is all smiles on the cover of this week’s Parade magazine, out this Sunday (March 21).
Here’s what the 17-year-old teen queen had to share:
On former flames Nick Jonas and Justin Gaston: “Nick and I were so young. We really did have a genuine love, but it wasn’t like this. We met when I was 12. I didn’t know who I was. I know who I am now and am so content and full of purpose. [Justin] was a good person, so carefree.”
“All I know is that I am so happy right now. I wasn’t last summer after I called it off with Justin and went away to film The Last Song. I cried all the way there. The last thing I was expecting to do was to fall in love. I went there thinking the summer was about me and getting focused on my career. But I guess God was like, ‘Girl, here is this amazing guy.’ ”
On her faith: “I don’t necessarily define my faith by going to church every Sunday. Because now when I go to church, I feel like it’s a show. There are always cameras outside. I am very spiritual in my own way. Let me make it clear, though—I am a Christian. Jesus is who saved me. He’s what keeps me full and whole. But everyone is entitled to what they believe and what keeps them full. Hopefully, I can influence people and help them follow the same path I am on, but it is not my job to tell people what they are doing wrong.”

Miley Cyrus and Greg Kinnear chat with AccessHollywood.com’s Laura Saltman about their new film, “The Last Song,” but what was Miley afraid to do in the movie? Plus, how does Miley avoid the pitfalls of fame?
Taking care of a few errands, Miley Cyrus was spotted out and about in North Hollywood yesterday afternoon (March 16).
Joined by her mother Tish, the “Climb” cutie paid a visit to a recording studio before making her way past the paparazzi and hopping into her luxurious Mercedes-Benz roadster.
In related news, Miley recently told press she can’t understand why she was ever into the whole Twitter phenomenon that has overtaken Hollywood.
She explained, “I hate when I read things where celebrities are complaining like ‘I have no personal life’. I’m like ‘That’s because you write everything that you’re doing!’ But I was that person.”
“I was like, ‘I’m so sad, I have no real, normal life, everyone knows what I’m doing.’ But that was my fault because I’m telling everyone. I’d tweet where I was going then wonder why there’s a thousand fans outside of the restaurant. Well Hello! You just told them!”
Out and About: Out in Toluca Lake – March 16
Miley Cyrus chatted with MTV about Sex And The City sequel:
‘I’ve always been a huge fan of the show, I think they are so amazing. It has such a great cast, and you can see the chemistry with all the girls. I was surprised [that they asked me].
It was a very glamorous day for me, to be on the carpet with the girls and share a really cool scene with Kim Cattrall, who I love. I think she’s so great. It was really, really fun and it was a big moment for me. It’s one of those perks.
You do so many things that aren’t as much fun and are really the hard parts, but that was just one of those things where it was the day you got to play. I’ve always really been into the show, and they added a couple different cameos with all different types of people. And they asked me to do one, which was a super big..
..honor. It was really easy and really fun. I haven’t seen any of it. All I did was my one tiny little part, where I just have to stand there. So I don’t know [what the plot is]. I’m excited, trust me. I’ll be waiting in front of the theater to go see it.’
